When painting sound plays a very important part, something is seen and there is a sound that goes with it, so when I begin the painting the sound and image are recalled and then attempts are made to express the image as it was seen and heard; only when both ring true is the painting done. Sometimes is it very figurative and other times is it more to do with feeling and movement. Sometimes it is an actual scene before my eyes and other times it is the essence of what was experienced which is remembered. I like using egg tempera, a most beautiful medium which allows for either great clarity and sharpness of expression or a softer more expressive approach.
