This area of my work reflects my interest in philosophy. The word conceptual as used here means a work of the imagination something conceived not something perceived or observed from nature. The starting point (following Plato's dictum that the words come first then the music) is texts from scriptural and philosophic writings from a range of sources.
The method is first to study the text thoroughly. Second to reflect on the meaning of the texts with the mind and heart as still and open as possible. Finally the essence is held in mind along with the question how may this best be represented or shown? From the stillness images arise like seeds. The work is then to transform this seed into the final work without losing touch with the sound and feeling of the original inspiration. I enjoy working with both eastern and western traditions. Usually these words are commissioned.
